NOSTALGHIA

year: 1983
director: Andrei Tarkovsky
cast: Oleg Yankovskiy, Erland Josephson, Domiziana Giordano

Film directed by Andrei Tarkovski, one of the best known creators of Russian cinema. A poet Gorchakov travels around Italy with a guide Eugenia, willing to know the fate of his beloved composer, who lived in the eighteenth century. During the expedition, the poet meets crazy Domenico, who had imprisoned his family in the barn for seven years to protect them from the evil of this world. Gorchakov begins to understand Domenico's motives and finds a deep truth in his actions. The madman begins to appear in the poet's dreams, alternating with the memories of his native country, the figure of his beloved wife and the guide Eugenia, to which the poet begins to harbor ambivalent feelings.
