Young Poet, A

year: 2014
director: Damien Manivel
cast: Leonore Fernandes, Remi Taffanel, Enzo Vassallo

Rémi's dream is to be a poet and thrill the world with his powerful and unforgettable verses. That's why he's chosen to spend the summer in the Mediterranean French town of S?te, where his idol, a famous poet, is buried in its lovely seaside cementery. Rémi is observant, sensitive and enthusiastic, and open to discoveries and encounters. But does he have the talent? Rémi is determined to write his poem. But where to begin? By spending hours contemplating the sea? Climbing a mountain? Listening to the birds singing? Going to the library? Finding his muse? Where? In bars? In the cementery? Underwater? These doubts are creeping in. He needs reassurance, and the certainty that inspiration is within his reach. Hell, he'll even resort to dubious methods to find it – by drinking, drinking and drinking some more until that spark of inspiration strikes. Such anxieties are all privileges of youth. By exposing them, Manivel's film is refreshing and energizing.
